With fall being in full swing, this is the perfect time of the year to put your focus a little bit towards home maintenance. Winter is a very strenuous time for your home so following some of these home maintenance tips will put your house in better shape moving forward.
1. Gutter Cleaning: One of the most common fall maintenance tips that homeowners partake in is gutter cleaning. The importance of gutter cleaning can’t be understated and to make sure your house is ready for winter, be sure to clean your gutters. Failing to do so can result in damaged gutters, ice dam issues and more!
2. Energy Audit: Is your house energy efficient and doing a good job of keeping the arctic cold and hot summer heat out? If not then you could be wasting hundreds of dollars every year and could have unwanted drafts throughout your home.
3. SEAL Air Leaks: After conducting an energy audit you can pin point and notice what needs to be improved in your home. If you have any windows, doors, lighting fixtures or outlets that need to be sealed up make sure that you do so before winter. Replacements also may be needed. Also, if you have limited or poor insulation you may need to improve this as well.
4. Trim Tree Branches: Snow and ice brings unwanted extra weight onto tree branches during the winter making the chances of these tree limbs breaking off much higher. With even fully healthy branches breaking off, it is important that you look around your house and make sure that you don’t have any large branches hanging over your home. If you notice that you do, be sure that you contact an arborist and trim them back. A fallen tree branch can damage your roof, gutters, landscaping and siding.
